The Rio Leadership Institute participates in and leads several
innovative initiatives, with special focus in the transformative power
of educational programming.
Current Activities
Prep Program
Launched in 2009, the Prep Programs objective is to increase the number
of Brazilians who study as undergraduates at the best colleges and
universities in the United States. We conduct outreach in top high
schools in Rio de Janeiro and
São Paulo
and offer personalized, free mentoring to guide highly talented
Brazilians through the application process. To learn more, please visit

Summer Scholarships
Linked to the Prep Program, our summer scholarships program supports
participants of the Youth Ambassadors program, a U.S. Embassy
initiative which annually takes talented Brazilian public school
students to the United States for three weeks of cultural exchange and

Instituto de Tecnologia ORT
Part of the network of World ORT, "an educational institution, of
Jewish origin, which is dedicated to technological training and
education," the Instituto de Tecnologia ORT is a top-notch high school
located in the neighborhood of Botafogo, in Rio de Janeiro. Wolff
Klabin and Samuel Elia, co-founders of ILRIO and members of our
Executive Council, are members of the school's Board of Directors, and
Jill Otto, co-founder of ILRIO and an Executive Council member, is a

Ensina!
Ensina!, whose name translates as Teach!, is a new educational
initiative which aims to improve the Brazilian public school system and
to develop new leaders in the area of education. It is affiliated with Teach for All, the
organization which carries the methodology and success of Teach for
America to other countries around the world. Two members of our
Executive Council participate actively in the planning and
implementation of the Program: Wolff Klabin is a member of the Advisory
Council and Álvaro Piquet Pessôa provides free legal
